About Michael
Michael Nguyen is a Houston-based flutist whose musical journey began in 2004 after hearing a flute cover CD of Teresa Teng’s popular songs, sparking his passion for the flute.
He is the inaugural Principal Flute of the Houston Pride Orchestra, where he also serves as a Member-at-Large on the Board of Directors, and performs as Flute II/Piccolo with the Energy Corridor Houston Orchestra (ECHO). His orchestral experience includes Flute III/Piccolo with Symphony North of Houston and substitute appearances with the Houston Civic Symphony and Houston Sinfonietta.
In addition to orchestral performance, Michael is active in chamber and specialty ensembles. He co-founded Wildflower Winds, a chamber ensemble featuring flute and clarinet that showcases the full range and color of the flute family, and is a co-founder and consultant for the Houston Concert Band Flute Ensemble. He also performs on low flutes with the Brazos Breeze and Flutes on the Bayou flute choirs.
In 2025, Michael was a finalist in the Byron Hester Flute Competition, hosted by the Houston Flute Club.
Michael is also an active online creator, with his flute cover of “Mask Off” gaining over 4.6 million views on YouTube.
